A graphic-spacial mural intervention of the life of Alexei Jaccard and the forces disparitions in Latin America

We designed a graphic mural intervention at the entrance of the Unimail building at the Université de Genève to commemorate the life of student activist Alexei Jaccard, who disappeared in Latin America. The project highlights the historical context of Operation Condor, connecting it to the broader political landscape of Latin America as well as the specific situations of each involved country.

Our design covers the walls between the two entrances to the auditorium, using a vivid and strong red that complements the new furniture. The color unifies the space, creating the impression of a cohesive red living area—an enclosed yet open space within a larger open environment.

The entrance to the auditorium, now named after Alexei Jaccard, has become a place of information and reflection. The permanent wall display recounts Alexei Jaccard’s story through a block of text and a graphic timeline, juxtaposing the chronology of his life with key political events in Latin America from 1952 to 2022. The timeline aims to connect these events, linking a personal story to its wider political and historical context.
